Social Media Project Manager

Position Purpose

The Social Media & Project Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day execution of client social media programs while also coordinating projects across the agency. This position combines strong content and social-media skills with organization, communication, project management, and client-service abilities.

The ideal candidate is a proactive doer who can take a strategy and turn it into an organized, timely, measurable program—while keeping clients and internal team members moving in the same direction.

Key Responsibilities Social Media Management

  • Develop and manage monthly social media content calendars for assigned clients.
  • Write, edit, and coordinate social media posts across appropriate platforms.
  • Create creative content to develop supporting assets.
  • Schedule and publish content.
  • Monitor comments, messages, engagement, and relevant conversations.
  • Identify opportunities for timely, relevant content.
  • Stay current on social media trends, platform changes, and best practices.
  • Ensure all content reflects the client’s brand, voice, objectives, and marketing strategy.
  • Review social performance and identify opportunities for improvement.

Content Development

  • Generate content ideas based on client goals, industry trends, campaigns, events, and news.
  • Conduct research to support content development.
  • Repurpose existing client content into social posts, blogs, emails, videos, and other formats.
  • Coordinate interviews, photography, video, and other content-gathering activities.
  • Help develop thought-leadership and educational content for clients.
  • Maintain a library of reusable content, images, videos, and brand assets.

Project Management

  • Manage assigned client projects from initiation through completion which includes nurturing client relationships.
  • Develop project timelines, deadlines, and task lists.
  • Coordinate internal resources and outside vendors.
  • Keep projects moving and identify potential delays before they become problems.
  • Manage approvals and revisions.
  • Ensure deliverables are completed accurately, on time, and within scope.
  • Maintain project-management systems and documentation.
  • Communicate priorities and deadlines clearly to team members.

Client Communication

  • Serve as a day-to-day contact for assigned social media and project-management activities.
  • Communicate proactively with clients regarding schedules, approvals, content needs, and deliverables.
  • Participate in client meetings as appropriate.
  • Translate client objectives into actionable content and project requirements.
  • Build strong client relationships through responsiveness, organization, and follow- through.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services and bring them to the Account Executive/ agency leadership.

Reporting & Measurement

  • Prepare or contribute to monthly social media reports.
  • Track meaningful metrics such as engagement, reach, traffic, leads, conversions, and audience growth where appropriate.
  • Help explain what the numbers mean, not simply report them.
  • Recommend adjustments to improve performance.
  • Help demonstrate the business value of the agency’s social media work.

Agency Responsibilities

Because this is an agency position, the person should also be expected to:

  • Work collaboratively across account service, creative, web, and strategy.
  • Participate in agency brainstorming and planning.
  • Help identify client needs and opportunities for additional agency services.
  • Contribute ideas for new business and agency marketing.
  • Support new-business proposals and presentations when appropriate.
  • Look for ways to use AI and other technology to make social media and project- management processes more efficient.
  • Develop repeatable systems, templates, and workflows that improve agency productivity.

Ideal Candidate

  • 5-7+years of experience in social media, content marketing, project management, or an agency environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of major social platforms and their respective audiences.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Comfortable managing multiple clients and competing deadlines.
  • Strong proofreading and editing skills.
  • Creative thinker who can generate ideas—not simply execute assignments.
  • Comfortable communicating directly with clients.
  • Able to manage both the big picture and the details.
  • Proactive rather than waiting to be told what to do.
  • Comfortable learning and incorporating AI tools into everyday workflows.
  • Familiarity with social scheduling, analytics, Canva/Adobe, project-management systems, and basic digital marketing tools is a plus.
